Video Interview - Salem's Davonte Williams & Mo Vaughan after win over Cox

Salem's dynamic senior duo of Davonte Williams and Morris Vaughan led the way for the Sun Devils as they beat previously undefeated Cox, 21-9 on Thursday night in the rain. Both teams now sit at 5-1 overall and in a four-way tie - along with the likes of Ocean Lakes and Landstown - atop the Beach District standings.

Williams, who sat out last week's win over Green Run after sustaining a concussion in their 10-6 loss to Tallwood the game before, set the tone right away. He broke off a 43-yard touchdown run on Salem's opening drive to give them a 7-0 lead and they stayed in front the whole night.

By game's end, Williams ended up with 221 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 29 carries. That's the most anyone has rushed for this year on a Cox defense that came in holding opponents to 5.8 points and 71.2 rushing yards per game.

As for Vaughan, he was a force all evening long on defense as the Sun Devils limited Cox to its season-low for points and rushing yards (just 74 yards on 30 attempts). The senior, playing both strong safety and linebacker, finished with a game-high 13 total tackles, 12 of which were solo stops. He also was in on a tackle behind the line of scrimmage.

We caught up with both Williams and Vaughan afterwards to get their thoughts on the win, an update on each's recruitment and more. That can be watched embedded above as well as at the link below.
