Player of the Week
Jenard Fleming 6’4, SG, Armstrong
I guess point guard L.C. Baker rubbed of on his counterpart this week, Jenard
Fleming. Fleming had a great game Friday night against Varina, scoring 31
points and grabbing 15 boards in a 84-68 victory over the Blue Devils of Varina.
Game of the Week
#5 Hermitage @ #2 Mills Godwin
Friday January 30 7:30 PM
This is a pivotal game for both teams this week. The two have
already played twice this year with each team pulling out a win. Both
teams have done nothing each week but get better and better. The game is
going to come down to the role players and some you might not have heard about.
Most likely Taylor Short and Jefferey Fitzgerald will take care of
each other, while Brett James and Greg Redford cancel each other
out. The game is going to come down to the play of each teams guards.
Hermitage’s Tim Pierce (18ppg) and Sam Hall will have to take
care of Trey Thorton and Kevin Albrecht and not let the perimeter
become available. Josh Vaughn will have to have a lot of composure in
this game and not shoot the ball as much. Hermitage has to look out for
sharpshooter Jordan Utley coming off the bench and giving up a few
threes. The Eagles don’t have as much athletic talent as the Panthers,
but are a little deeper. But all in all I think the Panthers come out on
top again, in a hostile territory, with a 68-65 victory over the Eagles.
“Thats Just NASTY” Throwdown
Greg Redford 6’6 Hermitage
Redford took care of business on a fast break Saturday night when he
threw a two handed thunder jam in a losing effort for his Panthers.

Thoughts and Notes:
- Its a make or break week for many teams this week...
The whole Central District:
No one really knows whats gonna happen here. The district is having an off
year and anyone can lose to anyone, besides Prince George. Meadowbrook
shows flashes of brilliance, but are very streaky. Besides that Dale,
Petersburg, Hopewell, and even Matoaca and Dinwiddie seem to be on the same
skill level. A lot will be cleared up with Thomas Dale playing Hopewell and
Petersburg this week.
Freeman Rebels:
A week with three games (depending on the snow) will determine if the Rebels can
bounce back from losing two of their best players for the season. They can
give up or keep fighting and we’ll find out a lot about the team this week
against Deep Run, Thomas Jefferson, and most importantly John Marshall.
Hermitage Panthers:
The Panthers need to bounce back from a shaky week where they played poorly
Friday and Saturday. They need to pull out a win against Godwin, which
will most likely clinch the Colonial for the Panthers and get them the number
one seed in the district and regional playoffs.
L.C. Bird Skyhawks:
Scheduled to play Meadowbrook, George Wythe, and Midlothian it could be a long
week for the Skyhawks. Midlo is no big threat, but they are a decent team.
Tyrese Rice needs to find a way to show up Tyree Evans and get past George Wythe
Wednesday night. They came close last time around losing 78-81.
Monacan Chiefs:
Brian Shin and Michael Graham are having a phenomenal years, but the Chiefs have
yet to win a big game and their regional fate is still unclear. They will
need to continue beating the teams they should this week against James River and
Clover Hill before they have to face off with George Wythe next week.
- Jerome Choice needs to show up on some peoples radar for defensive
player of the year. Every game it seems like he scores 15 points and 15
rebounds, and he did it again this week against Clover Hill. I’m going
to start calling him “Double-Double” for his skills on the court, along with
being the regions premier two sport athlete since he plays quarterback for the
Bulldogs.
