POSITIONS OF STRENGTH
Coach Charlie Pierce's Falcons are coming off of their second consecutive
playoff appearance and have performed very well in just two complete seasons of
Dulles District play since the school's opening. Fullback Billy McDonald
is expected to be the leader for Briar Woods, and he is a hard-nosed, powerful
back that can get tough yards. The offensive backfield also returns quarterback
Austin Fratalli and that experience will be counted on to keep the
Falcons in contention in the Dulles.
On defense, coach Pierce tells VirginiaPreps.com that he believes a number of
underclassmen are going to step in and contribute. Junior Victor Rizzardi
is one to watch in the secondary and the overall team speed should be a positive
factor for Briar Woods.
QUESTION MARKS
The biggest questions in Brambleton are on the defensive side of the ball, where
the team lost eight starters from last season's team that allowed under 14
points per game in the regular season. None of the starting linebackers return,
though coach Pierce expects Fratalli and fellow senior Tavis Henry to
fill a couple of those spots. On the other side of the ball, the offensive line
could be a concern, with seniors Omar Omokhodion and David Woodall
counted on to provide leadership for an otherwise young group.
