Woodside On Top

Drew Moyer held off a dangerous Western Branch lineup to propel Woodside to a 6-4 win in a battle of undefeated teams. The Wolverines improved to 13-0 on the year. The matchup drew a large crowd and the teams kept the fans in suspense until the final out.
Woodside scored runs in the bottom half of every inning Western Branch scored a run in. Roman Degman delivered a 2-out base clearing double in the first inning to give Woodside a 3-1 lead. In the fourth inning, University of Virginia recruit Devon Fisher drilled a solo homerun over the 378 feet center field fence to cut the deficit to 3-2. However, Woodside answered with a double by catcher Chris Henley, a sacrifice bunt by Mason Adamson to move the runner over to third, and a RBI single by Moyer.

Western Branch struck again in the top of the fifth to tie the game. Nate Collins singled and Grant Maiorana reached after getting hit by a pitch. Zach Rutherford and Alex Abbey followed with bloop singles to same spot in shallow center field to make the score 4-4.
The Wolverines regained the lead with three straight hits from Austin Rouleau, Seth Woodard, and Chris Henley. Woodard's double turned out to be the game winning run and he made two outstanding plays at shortstop to prevent scoring opportunities.
Moyer held on to the lead despite a few harrowing moments in the sixth and seventh innings. Western Branch had two runners on in the seventh but Moyer struckout Devon Fisher to end the game.
