outstanding year of high school football is behind us and what better
way was there to wrap up the season than to have four undefeated teams
battle for the Division Five and Division Six state championships on
the turf at Scott Stadium.
style="font-family: Verdana;">

Neither game
disappointed as the
outcome of the Lake Taylor versus Stone Bridge and L.C. Bird versus
Ocean Lakes games hung in the balance until the game's final minutes.
style="font-family: Verdana;">

As
would seem likely, the four title game programs lead the way on the
2012 VirginiaPreps.com All-State team as well.  Division Six
state
champion L.C. Bird led the way with four players honored on the first
team while runners-up Ocean Lakes placed three on the first team
roster.  Division Five state champion Lake Taylor had the most
players selected overall with a total of six earning either first or
second team honors while runners-up Stone Bridge put two on the first
team and two on the second.
style="font-family: Verdana;">

In total, 32 programs
are
represented in one way, shape or form on either the first or second
team with eight schools housing multiple first teamers and thirteen
teams placing multipler players on the first or second team roster.
style="font-family: Verdana;">

For
those unfamilar with how the team is selected, the VirginiaPreps.com
staffers discuss the possible candidates and limit the team to twelve
players on offense -- five offensive linemen, two running backs and
wide receivers and one player at quarterback, tight end and athlete, a
spot that we use as a catch-all to reward a player who we felt had to
be included.

On the defensive side
of the ball, we also reserve
twelve positions -- four linemen, four linebackers, three defensive
backs and one athlete spot.
style="font-family: Verdana;">

Additionally, the
roster will include a punter, kicker and two return men.
style="font-family: Verdana;">

The
only other constraint put into place is that we will not name a player
in more than one spot outside of the fact that we choose Offensive and
Defensive Players of the Year.
