Landstown Head Football Coach Robert Jackson chats with us about the Eagles during the Team Camp on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.
Jackson is gearing up for his second season at the helm of Landstown, where the Eagles opened 3-0, which included a 29-25 comeback victory at Tallwood. However, from there, they dropped seven straight games and missed the playoffs for the third consecutive year.
Prior to coming to Landstown, Jackson had a pair of unbeaten regular seasons during his three years at Bayside from 1998-2000, plus guided Salem to a 102-31 mark with three State Semifinal trips from 2005-15.
The veteran sideline boss is optimistic about what's in store for the 2023 campaign.
"I like our kids enthusiasm. I don't think talent is an issue here at Landstown," Jackson said. "We're working on the psyche, getting them to believe that they can win and be competitive.
There are a few building blocks, beginning with his senior crop. Class of 2024 DE/LB/TE Avir Johnson (6-3, 230) holds an offer from Morgan State and is drawing interest from a host of others. He was a 2nd Team All-Beach District performer a season ago at defensive end.
The Eagles open the 2023 campaign at home on August 24th vs. Ocean Lakes.
