The Granby Comets ran their record to 4-3 overall, 3-2 in the Eastern District with a convincing 38-8 win over the visiting Churchland Truckers at Powhatan Field on Thursday night in Norfolk.

Granby was able to get back in the win column following back-to-back losses to Norcom and Lake Taylor thanks to a turnover-free performance from its offense, which got 191 total yards on the night. Quarterback Daniel Lamb completed 7 of 12 pass attempts for 108 yards and two touchdowns - one each to Michael Thompson and Roger Williams. Tailback Troy Ricks also rushed for two scores and receiver Shaviaea Williams caught a pair of passes for 42 yards.

Defensively, the Comets bottled up Churchland, limiting the Truckers to 91 total yards on 42 plays. Their lone touchdown came via Quentin Greene's 90-yard kickoff return in the fourth quarter. Senior defensive end Antwjuan Inge was in one eight tackles, two for loss. Sophomore defensive end Jaquelle Gillespie made six tackles, four behind the line of scrimmage.

Granby scored 24 first half points with one of those touchdowns coming via special teams when Satwan Privott blocked a punt that junior classmate Tyriek Smith recovered in the end zone. Privott also had a fumble recovery in the first quarter.

Currently, the Comets are tenth in the latest VHSL power ratings, trailing Bayside and Western Branch as they chase a playoff berth in 6A-South. Eight teams qualify for the postseason from Conferences 1 and 2 in 6A-South. Up next are challenging tests against Cox and Norview, who enter Friday's play a combined 9-3 overall.

We caught up with Granby Head Football Coach Sekou Wilson for a Video Interview embedded above that can also be seen below, discussing his team's performance and outlook.
