Taylor and Lalich top Virginas QB Class of 2007

Picking
the state's "top" quarterback from the Class of 2007 should not be a
difficult choice - given that Rivals.com has rated Hampton's Tyrod Taylor
as the 19th best prospect in the entire country!
Although Hampton has already been displaced
from the state's unbeaten schools this season - Taylor has kept the Crabbers
among the state's elite and they are certainly a team to be 'reckoned with' come
playoff time. Entering this past weekend's action Taylor had completed 30 of his
60 attempts, and had six touchdown passes, and had also rushed for 291 yards on
49 carries and an additional six touchdowns!
Despite being the state's number two signal
caller, West Springfield standout and UVa commitment Peter Lalich has
found things a little bumpy on the field this season. While the Spartans
have lost four of their first five games, Lalich has managed to already pass for
over 1,580 yards with 13 touchdown passes while completing 103 of his 147
attempts.
There is a high probability that a number of
the state's to top quarterbacks will play other positions at 'the next level'.
Given their athleticism Osbourn's Brandon Hogan and Orange County's Bradley
Starks, both of whom have committed to West Virginia will likely be given
looks at running back and wide receiver when the get to Morgantown next year.
Russell Wilson - perhaps the top
quarterback in the Richmond area - he was named 'Player of the Year' following
his junior season - may very well be better suited for a completely different
sport - much less a position change. Many baseball 'experts' consider the
'diamond' to be Wilson's best 'field of dreams' though Collegiate senior yearns

Salem's Rick Kresinske hears 'put me
in coach' and says he's ready to make the switch from quarterback to tight-end
ala Heath Miller who made the same transformation a few years ago at
UVA and it translated into "Big Money" for the former Cavalier now
playing for the Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers.
Stone Bridge signal caller Terence Glenn
won a head-to-head match-up against Peter Lalich and West Springfield and has
steered the Bulldogs to an undefeated season and the top Division 5 ranking in
the state by VirginiaPreps.com. Glenn may be undersized to play
quarterback at a D I school, he is certainly demonstrating the athleticism and
leadership abilities that will make him an attractive prospect - regardless of
position.
Despite a suffering a concussion two weeks ago,
Darius Reynolds is set to return for C D Hylton - and has these
Bulldogs ranked number one in the entire state - and nationally ranked as well.
Reynolds is still looking to hit his stride, and though he has played well so
far this season he has only completed 11 of 33 passes in the three games in
which he has played (he sat out last week's game against Henrico after suffering
the concussion the previous week). Nagging injuries have hampered Reynolds
but he looks to be healthy now - and ready to prove he belongs among the state's
top quarterbacks.
Heading into Monday's game with Hermitage, Deep
Run's Quarterback Deck McGuire, a 6-5, 230-pound senior who's bound for
Georgia Tech to play baseball, was 28 for 57 for 578 yards (144.5 average) with
seven touchdowns. He had not thrown an interception.
Another Richmond area quarterback, J. C.
Poma - who also missed a game due to an injury has only passed for 431
yards so far this season, in three games, with four touchdown passes.
Further proof that the quarterback position is
a dangerous one is Oscar Smith's Dexter Merritt, who suffered suffered
a sprained MCL against Western Branch last week and will miss the next 2-3 weeks
of action.
On the season Merritt had completed 40 of 70
passes for 862 yards and six touchdowns while rushing for two more.
In his absence, Oscar Smith will start freshman Phil Sims under center as the
Tigers face Granby, Nansemond River and Deep Creek over the next three weeks.
