Star-studded field at Peanut City Shootout

The fourth annual
Peanut City Shootout

highlights a summer of 7 x 7 competition in the Eastern Region on Saturday as 24
teams from across the mid-Atlantic region meet up in what has become perhaps the
most competitive event in the Tidewater area for passing tournaments.
This
year's field includes 24 teams highlighted by the defending Division Six state
champion Oscar Smith Tigers, 2008 playoff qualifiers Bethel, Grassfield, Green
Run, Lake Taylor, Tabb, Warwick, Western Branch, Warwick, Woodside and a quasi
All-Star team from Prince William County named Collegeprepworld.
Oscar Smith headlines the field as the
VirginiaPreps.com preseason #1-ranked team enters the fray with the nation's
top-ranked quarterback Phillip Sims (pictured right)and two
highly-rated 2011 prospects in wide receiver Quintae Funderburke and
linebacker Raysean Richardson as well as 2010 prospect Jeremy
Majette, a linebacker.
The defending champions of the Shootout Lake
Taylor Titans, who have played in the championship game in each year of the
event, should make a strong showing with DI recruits Travis Williams, a
linebacker, and Mario Rowson, a defensive back fresh off of receiving
his first ACC offer (Maryland).
Bethel will be headed up by VirginiaPreps.com
Top 30 prospect Rijo Walker, a defensive back, and wide receiver Deshaun
Thomas as the Bruins search for their 2009 playmakers.
The Green Run Stallions will be a strong
contender as they'll place three DI prospects on the gridiron in running back Dejor
Simmons, defensive back Zach Dunston and tight end Jamal
Wallace while Southeastern District playoff qualifiers Grassfield fields a
strong team headed up by linebacker Isiah Twitty and H-back Nick
Warack.
Top prospects Dominique Patterson (LB,
Kings Fork), Dewayne Alford (ATH, Nansemond River) and Cedric
Johnson (RB, Lakeland) head up squads from the hometown Suffolk schools.
Perhaps the most intriguing team of the event
comes from the North as prospects from several Prince William County schools
have formed a team called Collegeprepworld.  The squad is expected to
feature Osbourn Park's Dominique Terrell, perhaps the #1 prospect in
the state from the Class of 2011, Chris Mason, and Travis
Marion.  They'll be joined by brothers Thomas and Timmy Keith
who helped lead the Osbourn Eagles to the D6 championship game last season as
did teammates Vidal Greene, Rodney "Lucky" Whitehead, and C.J.
Jackson who are expected to attend.  Three Woodbridge Vikings join the
squad in quarterback Frank Buckley, the Northwest All-Region signal
caller in 2008, defensive back Demetrius Quarles, a second team
All-State selection and linebacker Daryl Haley.  Others expected
to play include Potomac's Desmond Spades and Hylton's A.J.
Grady and Iric Harris who will be a highly-recruited defensive
back from the 2011 class.
Other prospects expected to play include: Keenan
Lambert (ATH, Maury), Montrell Johnson (RB, Smithfield), Lamonte
Williams (QB, Warwick), Aaron Evans (QB, Woodside), and Ben
Edwards (QB, York).
