Senior Bowl invites for Former Virginia Prep standouts

Several former Virginia prep standouts were selected to participate in Senior Bowl activities and play in the Reese's Senior Bowl which showcases draft eligible college seniors to NFL scouts. Practices will be held during the week with the game to be played Saturday at 2:30 PM on NFL Network.

DaShawn Hand was the #1 ranked high school player by Rivals.Com and the Rivals Junior of the year while attending Woodbridge High School. He finished his career with 64 total tackles and 13.5 tackles for loss while adding eight career sacks. He had a career high five tackles in the Nation Championship semi-final win against Clemson including a sack. he was a member of two National championship teams in 2015 and 2017. NFLDraftScouts.com has Hand with a 2nd round projection while other sites have him listed between the 2nd and 6th rounds.

Jalyn Holmes (6-foot-5, 270) was a Rivals 4-star prospect after signing with Ohio State after graduating from Lake Taylor High School in Norfolk. He was selected All-Big Ten Honorable mention in both 2016 and 2017. He played in 49 career games finishing with five sacks and 14 tackles for loss. Holmes recorded 62 of his 84 career tackles in his final two seasons. Holmes was a member of the 2014 Ohio State National Championship team. The website NFLDraftScouts.com has Holmes being taken in the 3rd round.

Rivals 5-star recruit Quin Blanding out of Virginia Beach's Bayside High finished his career as the Cavaliers all-time leading tackler 495 and he finished 6th all-time in ACC history. He picked off 10 passes during his four years at UVA including four as a senior. He has at-least 100 tackles every year with a high of 137 as a senior. He was 1st team All-ACC the last three years after being named 2nd team All-ACC as a freshman. He won numerous post season awards including 2nd team Walter Camp All-American and 3rd team AP All-American. The website NFLDraftScouts.com has Blanding projected for the 3rd to 4th round.

A 5-star recruit coming out of Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, Andrew Brown (6-foot-4, 285) was the 2013 Gatorade National Player of the Year. He finished his collegiate career at the University of Virginia with 10.5 sacks and 26.5 tackles for loss while adding 94 total tackles.


Offensive guard Wyatt Teller (6-foot-5, 315) was 1st team All-ACC during his final two seasons at Virginia Tech. Teller attended Liberty High School and was recruited to play defense but switched to offense during his freshman season. He was a 4-star prospect in High School and ranked as the 59th overall prospect by Rivals.Com. Teller is receiving a 3rd round projection from NFLDraftScouts.com

DaeSean Hamilton (6-foot-1, 205) graduated Mountain View High School as a 3-star prospect by Rivals.Com. He attended Penn State University where he set the record for most career receptions with 204 while finishing 3rd all-time with 2673 receiving yards. Hamilton ended his career with 16 receiving touchdowns. As a freshman Hamilton led the Big ten with 82 receptions. He was named Academic All-Big Ten three straight years. NFLDraftScouts.com projects Hamilton to be selected by round five.


North Carolina cornerback M.J Stewart (5-foot-11, 190) ended his career with 47 pass defensed and six interceptions in 49 career games. Stewart, a product of Arlington's Yorktown High School, was credited with 199 tackles in his career while being named Honorable Mention All-ACC as a senior and junior and 2nd team All-ACC as a sophomore. He is receiving a 5th round grade by NFLDraftScouts.com

Derrick Nnadi (6-foot-1, 310) was a 4-star prospect coming out of Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia Beach. Nnadi was originally listed on the Senior Bowl roster but decided to skip the event to concentrate on the NFL combine. Nnadi was a 3-year starter at Florida State and he was named third-team All-ACC his senior year. As a junior, Nnadi was named 1st team All-ACC after registering six sacks and 49 tackles from the interior line spot. He finished his career with 12 sacks, 165 tackles, 24.5 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles. Nnadi has a 2nd to 3rd round projection according to NFLDraftScouts.com.
