NIKE COMBINES
YOU ARE INVITED - TEST YOURSELF WITH THE BEST!
REGISTER FOR A 2008 NIKE COMBINE!
The premier high school athletic testing event,
the NIKE Combines are a great opportunity for top high school players who aspire
to play on the next level to see where they stand with their peers and get
unbiased testing numbers by respected professionals in the industry.
Produced by Student Sports, which started the first high school football combine
and camp events almost 20 years ago, these FREE combines will give any
athlete an opportunity to showcase their skills for college coaches as well as
for possible selection for the NIKE Football Training Camps held later in the
spring.
The NIKE Combines are exclusive events and a great opportunity to get
standardized SPARQ Testing in a professional setting. These testing results are
the gold standard for college coaches across the country who have been relying
upon Student Sports' expertise and unbiased testing excellence to evaluate high
school talent for the past 20 years.
The NIKE Combines are open to rising seniors (graduating in 2009) and top
underclassmen looking to showcase their skills to the football world. Players
like Devin Hester, Haloti Ngata, Larry Fitzgerald and hundreds more have blown
up into national recruits after standout showings at NIKE testing events and
thousands more, like FSU signee Vince Williams in the Class of 2008, who
received his first offer just two days after posting the top SPARQ Rating at
last year's NIKE Combine in Orlando, have earned scholarships - you could be
next this spring!
COMBINE FORMAT:
For all NIKE Combines, registration begins at 9am for instate players and 12pm
for out-of-state participants! (Unless otherwise noted)
Athletes who come to a NIKE Combine will register, where they will pick up
their free NIKE Pro workout shirt. They will then snake through the Combine
events in the order they registered, beginning with height and weight. After
height and weight are measured, the players will be photographed and begin the
testing events.
After a proper, supervised dynamic warm-up, each athlete will be tested in the
40-yard dash (twice, fastest time kept), vertical jump, the 20-yard shuttle
(twice, fastest time kept) and new this year the powerball throw (twice,
farthest throw kept). With these testing results each athlete will be able to
calculate their SPARQ Rating at
sparqtraining.comto see where they stand with the best in the country.

in which players will have the opportunity to listen to and interact with
knowledgeable speakers on topics of offseason training and the recruiting
process.
Attending one of the NIKE Combines is a great opportunity to take advantage of
NIKE's commitment to football and athleticism, which will give each athlete the
opportunity to get professionally SPARQ Tested so they will have a starting base
to improve upon. They'll have a chance to see other elite players in their
class, which will give them an idea of where they stand and inspire them to get
better. Also in select markets following these combines, NIKE will be holding
instructional NIKE SPARQ Camps FREE of charge to help each athlete work with
SPARQ Trainers to improve upon their times and stats from the NIKE Combine.
There is also an opportunity for great recruiting exposure and coverage. Student
Sports, home of the NIKE Football Training Camps and leader of the Student
Sports High School Network on Rivals, will be at the NIKE Combines covering the
event as well as taking photos and video. In addition the results will be
distributed to major college football programs all over the country. Also, a
good performance can mean a spot at the
NIKEFootball Training Camps, which kickoff in April 2008.
Each athlete participating will need to bring appropriate workout gear: shorts,
sweats, football cleats and training shoes. Also, each participant will receive
a NIKE Pro participant's shirt.
(Q)Can a bad performance at the NIKE Combine hurt my stock?
(A) No, because of the "scratch rule." Student Sports cares about the
athletes first! If an athlete tests and does not like a particular mark, the
time or mark may be scratched from the results.
Even so, college coaches put more emphasis on how players perform in pads. A
disappointing time in the 40 will not lead to colleges dropping a player. At
past NIKE events, running backs and wide receivers have run 4.8's and
linebackers run 5.2s and still sign with major D-I programs - current New York
Jets standout linebacker Jonathan Vilma clocked a 5.0 40 at a NIKE Camp when he
was in high school, and obviously the fourth-year All-Pro has not let that slow
him down. Use your times, marks and SPARQ Rating to honestly evaluate yourself
as a player and see where you can work to improve your athleticism through SPARQ
Training.
WHAT IS A SPARQ RATING? SPARQ stands for Speed, Power, Agility, Reaction
and Quickness, the essential tools for superior athletic performance. SPARQ
Training is the dynamic training method used at the NIKE Football Training
Camps. The SPARQ Rating is a number that identifies overall athletic ability and
is used by top coaches and trainers around the nation as an initial indicator of
an athletes potential on the field.
