Menchville made short work of the Denbigh Patriots needing five innings to advance to the Peninsula District semi-finals. Leroy Simmonds drove in three runs while Josh Moore and Alex Korecky also drove in two runs apiece. The Monarchs scored four runs in both the 1st and 2nd innings on their way to an easy 12-1 win.
Simmonds doubled down the feft field line to drive in the first run and then came all the way in to score on a throwing error for a 2-0 lead. Korecky followed with a double after the error to plate two more runs. Menchville began the second with four straight singles including a 2-RBI hit from Simmonds. A 2-run triple by Virginia Tech recruit Josh Moore extended the lead to 11-1. Evan Forrest drove in the final Monarch run after Korecky led off the fourth with a triple.
Senior Deshaun Hewitt, in his first career start, pitched into the third inning to earn the win. Hewitt allowed eight base-runners in two innings but left with a 8-1 lead. Emory Chopp relieved Hewitt with the bases loaded and struck out two of the batters he faced to end the inning. Chopp also pitched a scoreless fourth to earn the win.
Juinior Keith Mays took the loss for Denbigh however he did pitched all four innings. The Patriots committed four errors. Denbigh had 12 base runners but their only run came in the third inning when John Garcia scored on a wild pitch.
Menchville moves on to face Kecoughtan in the Peninsula District semi-finals. The Monarchs have already secured a spot in the Eastern Region tournament after defeating Hampton in a 1-game playoff.
