Liberty Christian Reaches State Final
First baseman Josh Campo drove in four runs including a 2-run homerun, and Zach Hess threw a complete game 2-hitter to lead Liberty Christian Academy to a 6-1 win over Norfolk Academy.
The outcome was delayed three days because of a storm on Thursday. Zach Hess started the day with a 1-0 lead but allowed two singles to Ryan French and Will McDowell that tied the game at 1-1. Hess plunked the next batter he face before striking out 6 of the next 8 hitters. He sat down the final 15 batters he face.
Campo was the hitting star for Liberty Christian Academy finishing 2 of 3 from the plate with four RBI and a homerun. He drove in a run on each of his three plate appearances driving in the games first run on a grounder to short which scored Josh Barrick who tripled. Campo singled in the go ahead run in the third then smashed a 2-run shot over the centerfield fence to extend the lead to 4-1. Ben Stanley added two more insurance runs with a blast over the left field fence with a runner on.
The Bulldogs entered the tournament as the #1 seed and they will advance to the State championship game where they will face the winner of the St Annes-Belfield-Flint Hill game.
