Hickory Moves On

Connor Eason limited Stone Bridge to only one run on five hits to propel the Hickory Hawks to a 9-1 win over Stone Bridge. Eason, who has committed to the University of Virginia, struck out eight Bulldogs and fittingly saw the game end with a double play.
Hickory jump out to a 2-0 lead scoring a run in each of the first two innings Stephen Polansky drove in his brother Mikey Polansky for the first run and Ryan Berglund drove in a run with a double in the second inning.

The Hawks put six runners across the plate in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. Two runs were scored on bases loaded walks and Zach York cleared the bases with a double to give Hickory an 8-1 lead.
York, Stephen and Mikey Polansky, and Colby Rudis all finished with multiple hits. Stephen Berzcek drove in two runs with a single and fielders choice.
Stone Bridge scored their only run in the third inning with a RBI single from catcher Eli Quiceno.
Hickory will face Douglas Freeman in a rematch of the 5A South Region championship.
