VirginiaPreps.com is busy re-ranking the best from the Class of 2013.
In our latest rankings, Fork Union quarterback
href="viewprospect.asp?Sport=1&pr_key=128525">Christian
Hackenberg has catapulted all the way to #3, up from his #15
ranking when we last ranked the class last fall. A quick look at the
6-foot-4, 215 pounder's offer list explains the big jump. Hackenberg
now holds offers from Alabama, Connecticut, Miami, Rutgers, South
Carolina, Tennessee as well as from both of the state's D-I schools,
Virginia and Virginia Tech.
Hackenberg recently told Mike Farrell "I'm just thankful and
blessed every day for the opportunities I have. I've got to make the
best decision for me."
When asked about the Alabama offer, he responded "Having the
opportunity to play at that type of atmosphere with a coach like Nick
Saban and the players down there, that is a great opportunity and hard
to pass up," he said. "I'm very excited they have given me the
opportunity. I've got to keep learning more about the school, depth
chart and that type of stuff."
In terms of visits, Hackenberg is hoping to make trips later this
spring to Miami, Alabama and South Carolina, but nothing is currently
scheduled.
As he contemplates his offers more, what does he want in a school?
"I want a great school that offers great academics and a great football
program," he said. "I just want a team where I feel it's a family out
there. I want somewhere I can give everything I have for them."
As a junior Hackenberg accounted for 2,200-yards passing and 23 total
touchdowns while earning first team all-league, region and state honors.
Other rising prospects include Briar Woods' linebacker
href="viewprospect.asp?Sport=1&pr_key=130522">Matt Rolin,
a newcomer to our rankings, debuting at #13. Like Hackenburg, Rolin's
early offer list is quite impressive, including Boston College,
Michigan, Tennessee, Washington, Virginia and Virginia Tech.
Many think the Hokies might have the edge with Rolin, since
his older brother Scott is already a member of the Tech football
program. But the younger Rolin says "I don't have a top school. I'm
keeping my options open, but I know a lot more about them (Virginia
Tech) than any school in the country."
Three more newcomers to our Top 30 are
href="viewprospect.asp?Sport=1&pr_key=132320">David Prince
at #16, DaeSean
Hamilton at #17, and
href="viewprospect.asp?Sport=1&pr_key=131719">Deon Newsome
at #18.
Prince, an athlete from Patrick Henry (Roanoke), played
quarterback last fall for the Patriots to a 7-3 record behind an
offense that averaged nearly 28 points per contest as he connected on
70 of 121 passes for 1,005 yards and nine touchdowns. He projects as a
wide receiver or defensive back in college.
Hamilton is a 6-foot, 175 pound wide receiver/defensive back
that plays for Mountain View. He already has offers from East Carolina,
Liberty and Virginia Tech.
Newsome is another in a long line of outstanding prospects
from Hampton. The versatile standout for Mike Smith's Crabbers already
has offers from Virginia and Virginia Tech.
