Granby Remains Unbeaten

Senior James Greer laced a walkoff single over the head of a drawn in outfield to give Granby a 3-2 win over Cox in a Conference 1 showdown. The Comets kept their record perfect with a the win.
Starting pitcher Matt Eagle led off the bottom of the seventh with a double to deep center. After a perfectly place sacrifice bunt by catcher Mathew Anderson, Greer (who is headed to the Citadel) gave the Comets the win with a single to left field.

The game started out as a pitchers duel with the teams combining for only three hits thru the first five innings. Left-fielder Charlie Minnnegerode prevented a Falcon threat with a great catch and throw in the 4th inning. Cox had runners at 2nd and 3rd base with no outs and their cleanup hitter Lane Wildman due up. Minnnegerode was able to track down a shallow fly ball for one out then he threw a perfect one-hop throw home to nail Sam Lipsmeyer at the plate for a double-play.
Granby took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning with the help of two throwing errors from the Cox catcher allowing Bobby Starcher and Trey Hanchey to score. Cox tied the game in the seventh after an RBI single by Connor McCabe scored a run and a sacrifice fly by Carter Heron added another.
Reliever Chase Anderson struckout the final two batters to end the inning. He was also the winning pitcher.  Matt Eagle threw six innings and did not allow a run. He struckout six and allowed only two hits. Nick Bay, who pitched the final half inning, took the loss for Cox. Starting pitcher Chad Lentz allowed no earned runs and three hits in 5.2 innings while striking out seven Comet batters.
