Grafton Still Alive

The Grafton Clippers jumped out to a 4-0 lead then hung on to defeat Midlothian 6-4. The win advances Grafton to the 4A Region semi-finals. P.J Jackson and Zach Lechthaler both drove in two runs and Gray Harris struckout five batters in five innings to earn the win. Rick Dearing threw two shutout innings to get the save.

The Trojans out hit the Clippers 10 to 7 however Grafton made their hits count with some clutch hitting. Jackson singled in the second to drive home Evan Sperling from second for a 2-0 lead. A Ryan Hiser sacrifice fly, with the bases loaded, gave the Clippers a 4-0 lead in the third.


Midlothian pulled to within one with runs in the 4th and 5th innings. C.J Freedman singled in the first Trojan run and he scored on a single to right field by Taylor Majetic to cut the lead in half. Tanner Fuller manufactured a run in the fifth after a single, sacrifice bunt, wild pitch, and a ground ball error.


Lechthaler added a 2-run double to give Grafton a 6-3 lead and Freedman added a final run for Midlothian with a double followed by an RBI single by Michael McCullough. Dearing came in to close the show for the Clippers sitting down the final four Trojans he faced. Grafton now has their ace Evan Sperling available for the 4A semi-finals.


Player of the Game
P.J Jackson was 1 for 3 with two RBI's and he did a great job scooping up several balls thrown to 1st base.
