Fuqua Wins D3 Championship

Fuqua School won their first state championship defeating #1 seed Southampton Academy 5-4 in extra innings. Thomas Parrish threw a complete game with seven strikeouts.
"We've been knocking on the door the last few years," Fuqua head coach Ted Cunningham said. "We lost a core group last year but these came in and work their butts off. I could not be more proud of the way our guys played."

The Falcons scored four runs in the sixth inning to take a 4-1 lead but Southampton Academy answered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game. Trent Jacobs led off the 8th inning with a triple and scored the game winning run on a single by freshman Devin Allen. Parrish sat down all three batters he faced in the bottom of the 8th for the win.
Fuqua had lost both regular season meetings to Southampton but Parrish believed the outcome would be different the third time around. "We came into the games believing we weren't going to lose to them three times in a row," Parrish said. "We just kept fighting and pulled it off."
