Below are four sophomores that have been 'fast-risers' this season! Certainly
there are many more, so please let us know about them - email us at

Osbourn Park's Cameron Smith: With older brother Garrett as the the
focal point of many defensive game-plans, Cameron turned out to really slice
defenses up during his sophomore season. He earned All-Cardinal District First
Team honors, averaging 13.9 points per game. Smith attacked defenses of the
bounce and showed a high basketball IQ throughout the year.
Potomac's Randy Haynes: Another sophomore that was chosen All-Cardinal
District First Team, Haynes has been a real catalyst for a Panthers team that
has won eight in a row. He's averaging 13.3 points per game, getting the job
done as an undersized post wh is developing more overall skills. By his senior
year, teams may have no choice but to throw two defenders at him.
Herndon's Dorian Johnson: The 6-foot-3 shooting guard really blossomed
this season for the Hornets. Johnson enters the region playoffs averaging 16.8
points per game with 41 three-pointers made while shooting 76% from the
free-throw line. His ability to score inside and outside makes him an intriguing
prospect at the next level.
Maury's Jaleel Ferguson: In a year where his older brother Jamal (signed
with Marquette) gets most of the attention, Jaleel has been the Commodores' most
valuable player some nights. On the year he's putting up roughly 13 points and
11 rebounds per game. At 6-foot-5, Ferguson's length around the basket is an
asset, and he's become more aggressive offensively in recent months, too.
