Devan Downey, the nation's seventh ranked point guard, committed to the Commonwealth Classic this week. Downey, a 5'9 electrifying point guard who will team with Tyree Evans at Cincinnati in the fall of 2005, is the second top tier nationally ranked point guard to put his name on the roster in the past week.
Downey recently scored 67 points in one of his final high school games, as he connected on 10 3-pointers including 8 consecutive. Downey played his high school basketball for Chester Senior High School in Chester, SC.
Downey's commitment to the game closes out the national team's point guard positions. With the additions of Downey and the Miami bound Denis
Clemente[/db], the Virginia team had better expect to get back on defense pretty quickly. Both Downey and Clemente are considered the fastest point guards in the 2005 class.
