style='text-decoration:none;text-underline:none'>Nick Douglas drew
looks from some Division I and Division II schools during his career with both
the Seahorses and before that at Hanover.
In the end, he'll e headed to a Division III perennial power, giving a
verbal commitment to Coach Dave
class=SpellE>Macedo and Virginia
Wesleyan College out of the ODAC.
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>"Nick has a great feel for the game.
style=> His biggest improvement this year has been
his poise, which goes along with the understanding of pace and tempo," stated
Christchurch Head Basketball Coach Ben
Thompson.
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>"I challenged him throughout the year on improving
himself and his team. He increased his
scoring, free-throw attempts and his assist numbers from his junior year.
style=> This was all while limiting his turnovers."
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>This past season for Christchurch, Douglas averaged 9.6
points per game and was tops on the team in assists at 4.6 a contest.
style=> His play was vital in the Seahorses reaching
the VISAA State Championship game for a second year in a row and finishing with
a record of 20-9 overall.
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>"Nick's effort and determination was invaluable to this
season's team. He is a physically strong
lead guard with body control, the ability to score in traffic, and the innate
sense to set up scoring opportunities for his teammates," Thompson added.
style=>
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>"The point guard position is arguably the toughest position
to play in basketball. Nick embraced his
role, putting the team before himself and sacrificing individual statistics or
accolades. He has an improved
understanding of when to score, and when to set up his teammates."
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>Douglas is the third member from the Class of 2014 for
Christchurch to head on to the next level, joining five-star recruit
style='mso-bidi-font-weight:normal'>Devin Robinson (University of Florida)
and All-State guard Julian Reed (D-2
Mount Olive in North Carolina).
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>Even on a team where he wasn't the go-to guy, Douglas
had some highlight performances this past season for the Seahorses, registering
21 points and four assists in a loss to Benedictine and posting a double-double
of 13 points and 12 assists in a victory at Norfolk Christian.
style=> He also had 18 points and seven assists in a
win over Trinity Episcopal.
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>Virginia Wesleyan is no stranger to success, capturing
the 2006 D-3 National Championship and finishing as NCAA Runner-Up in
2007. Under Macedo,
they've gone 314-100 in 14 years with no fewer than 16 victories in any season.
style=> Last season, the Marlins were 24-7, reaching
the D-3 NCAA Tournament Sectional Semifinals.
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>"For the Marlin fans, I believe he is a D.J.
class=SpellE>Woodmore type of steal," Thompson commented.
style=> "Nick wants to be a winner, and he has chosen
a coach and a program that do just that on a yearly basis.
style=> He is ready to make an impact right away at Virginia
Wesleyan."
