Chantilly Names New AD And Football Coach
Chantilly took steps toward fixing its beleaguered athletic department on
Wednesday, hiring Terry Brown as its new activities director and Mike Lalli as
its new football coach, interim activities director Tod Chapell said.
Brown, 47, spent the past three years as Stuart's activities director. He
replaces Donna King, who was reassigned by Fairfax County Public Schools in May
and is now Centreville's assistant principal.
Lalli, 35, was Chantilly's defensive coordinator last year under Marty
Riddle, who resigned July 11. He was the fourth Chantilly coach to leave
a position in the last two months.
Chantilly was 0-10 under Riddle.
"I was pretty surprised because it seemed like Marty was intent on
staying," said Lalli, a 1988 Ireton graduate who played defensive back
at Notre Dame from 1989-92. "The one advantage for me and for the
kids is that they'll know the coaching staff and that makes it easier on
everybody."
A business teacher at Chantilly, Lalli previously applied for head
coaching positions at Chantilly and Fairfax. He was the head coach at
Ireton from 1998 to 2001.
Brown is a 1976 Annandale graduate
and served as that school's assistant activities director for three
years before moving to Stuart in 2002. He also coached and taught at
Langley, Oakton and W.T. Woodson.
"It's sad leaving Stuart because that's where I got my start and I
felt like we all had a hand in turning the athletic programs there in the
right direction," Brown said. "But I'm very excited as well. Chantilly
is a place where they expect to be competitive."
