Cape Henry Upends Benedictine

Jimmy Paige had 22 points and Marcus Evans added 21 points to help Cape Henry to a 68-64 win over Benedictine before a packed house on a frigid night. The Dolphins improved to 8-0 on the season while continuing their streak of beating top flight competition.

Cape Henry opened the game energized on both ends of the court. Ayron Hutton drive and assist to Paige gave the Dolphins a 13-10 lead and they led 23-8 after an inside basket by Chris Clarke who finished with 12 points.

Benedictine got back into the game using a barrage of 3-point shots including a long three from Josh Bailey at the halftime buzzer. A three to start the third by Reid Jacoby started an 11-2 run by Benedictine that gave the Cadets their first lead (35-34) with a little more than five minutes to go. They made their run without Indiana recruit Robert Johnson who was called for his third foul early in the third quarter.

Evans stepped up with a jumper off a crossover and fast break layup to give Cape Henry a 57-48 lead with 4:54 to go. Moments later, Paige converted a three-point play to extend the lead to 61-54 with under two minutes to go. Evans added four free throws to seal the deal.

Benedictine had their chances down the stretch but came up short against a second straight nationally ranked team. The Cadets fought Huntington Preps down to the wire on Saturday. Bailey led Benedictine with 20 points including 5 of 8 from downtown. Robert Johnson, who was playing with a bandage hand, added 16 points and 12 rebounds. Reid had 12 points while C.J Wiggins had 11 points, eight assists, and two steals.

The talent on the court attracted plenty of attention from both college coaches and local media. University of Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon was at the game as was Old Dominion assistant coach John Richardson.
