Caparelli Chooses The ACC!
Robinson All-Examiner senior running
back
Lucas Caparelli has verbally committed to Wake Forest after a
campus visit this past weekend.
Caparelli chose Wake Forest over similar offers from Virginia, Virginia Tech,
Pittsburgh and Michigan State, among others. The commitment is not binding until
Caparelli signs a national letter-of-intent when the official signing period
begins on Feb. 1.
Caparelli is also a standout defensive back and returner. Several schools did
not recruit him as a running back.
"I always said I wasn't going to base my
decision on where I was going to play on the football field," Caparelli said.
"But Wake does look at me as a running back so that's where I plan to help
them. I just had a good feeling about the place in my heart."
Caparelli, also All-Examiner as a junior when he helped the Rams win the
Northern Region title and advance to the Group AAA Division 6 title game,
finished his career with 4,063 rushing yards, 1,007 receiving yards and a
school-record 66 touchdowns.
As a senior he totaled 1,474 rushing yards and
490 receiving yards. He also averaged 29 yards per return and intercepted three
passes at defensive back.
The No. 4 Rams (9-2) lost to No. 3 Westfield in a region semifinal, 35-14.
At Wake Forest, Caparelli will join former Robinson standout
Chip Vaughn,
a 2003 All-Examiner selection, who started at safety for the Demon Deacons as a
redshirt freshman last fall.
