Brookville won their second straight VHSL D3 AA State championship defeating James Monroe 24-14 in a rematch of the 2011 D3 State championship. The Bees scored four times after falling behind 7-0 in the first quarter.

Two quick Brookville scores in the second quarter changed the momentum of the game and force James Monroe into catch up mode.

The Yellow Jackets took a 7-0 lead on a 41-yard touchdown run by Adrian Boone with 6:28 to go in the first quarter. Boone broke thru the line then used a downfield block by Kyle Washington to get into the endzone. It took Brookville only 1:11 to answer when Anthony Calloway broke free for a 63-yard touchdown run to tie the game 7-7.

A third second quarter scoring opportunity ended with no points for the Bees after a 45-yard field goal attempt by Alan Guitierrez was blocked by Tony Scott. James Monroe returned the kick to the 45-yard line and thanks to a 15-yard personal foul, took over at the Brookville 30-yard line with 31 second remaining before halftime.

James Monroe quarterback Jay Scroggins found Adrian Boone for a 24-yard touchdown reception but the score was called back after a holding penalty was called on one of the offensive lineman which also put the Yellow Jackets out of field goal range.

Brookville stopped James Monroe on their first possession of the second half then drove 91-yards to take a 21-7 lead. Senior quarterback Kendall Becraft threw a short pass to a wide open Steven Racanelli to extend the Bees lead to 21-7 with 2:57 to go in the third quarter. The drive lasted 14 plays and took almost six minutes off the clock. Brookville ran the ball nine straight plays and benefited from a great sideline catch by Benjamin Hogg for a 1st down.

After another 3-and-out by James Monroe, Brookville drove 53-yards and settled for a 24-yard field goal by Guitierrez with a little over nine minutes remaining in the game.

James Monroe struck back driving 80-yards for a touchdown with 3:41 to go. The key play was 37-yard completion from Scroggins to Byran Johnson who made an amazing one-handed grab on 3rd-and-22. A pass interference on 4th-and-goal from the one kept the drive alive and Scroggins scrambled to the left and found James Dyson for the touchdown trimming the lead to 24-14. The Yellow Jackets had one last opportunity with 1:56 remaining but they could get no closer than the Bees 35-yard line.

The Bees finished with 248 yards rushing with Calloway leading the way with 123 yards on 12 carries. Becraft, who finished his career with back-to-back state championships, finished 10 of 16 for 136 yards and two touchdowns.
