804 North Earns Victory Over 804 South

Some of the Metro Richmond area best players gathered at Richard Bland College for the 14 Annual 804 All-Star Classic. After Mills Godwin guard Dillon Thomas won the 3-point contest and Trinity Episcopal's Zach Jacobs won the slam dunk championship, the North got the win defeating the South 157-126.

Marvin Cannon from the Steward School earned game MVP after scoring 23 points while exciting the crowd with explosive dunks and stick-backs. John Marshall senior Isiah Anderson had 25 points to lead the North and his teammate Greg Jones added 20 points.

The South was the favorite on paper with two D1 commits and four players that had won State championships in the past two weeks. But the North roster had a lot of star talent of their own and they quickly jumped out in front thanks to MVP Marvin Cannon who showcased his high-flying skillset with several monster dunks.

Millwood's Miles Gibson kept the South within reach early but the North started to pull away leading 43-27 halfway thru the 1st period. Varina's Kenneth Southerland finished the 1st half strong with a couple of dunks and a three as the North almost broke the century mark in the 1st half taking an 87-69 lead at the break.

Three 2nd half dunks by James Madison commit and slam dunk champion Zach Jacobs cut the North lead to 95 -87. However, the John Marshall tandem of Isiah Anderson and Greg Jones pushed the lead back to North up 25 with 9:55 to go and South couldn't make another run.

Gibson was my North player MVP after totaling 24 points including six from 3-point range. Jaylen Dillard added 18 points while teammate and Harvard commit Mario Haskett added 17 points and seven assists. Brian Morris and JoJo Harris each had eight assists while Tim Fisher was credited with nine rebounds to go long with his 13 points.
