In determing the 2009 VirginiaPreps.com AA
All-State 1st and 2nd teams and honorable mention awards,
the VirginiaPreps.com staff used the following criteria, in addition to seeing
various games throughout the season both in person and via video highlights
and/or broadcasts.
Stats
"Blue Highway"">: For the offensive skill
positions (quarterback, running back, tight end & wide receiver) and special
teams, we are usually able to track down season statistics for most areas of
the state. Defensive statistics (tackles, sacks, interceptions, etc.) are
somewhat more sporadically tracked (and there are inconsistencies in how
they are tracked, as well), so those play less of a role in the selections.
Team
Success and Playoffs:
These teams are selected based on both regular season and playoff
performances. This does not mean that players whose teams missed the
postseason are penalized; however, players whose teams make deep playoff
runs and who play a significant role in that playoff success can see their
stock rise. In the end, we try to look at the numbers based on games played
and contributions during those games.
All
District and All Region Teams:
While both the all-district teams and all-region teams are used for
reference, we try to be make objective selections based on the criteria
listed above. Some positions, such as offensive line, do rely more heavily
on the all-district selections than others.
Positional
Numbers:
This year, we selected the team with the same offensive and defensive
positions as VirginiaPreps.com's AAA All-State team. The biggest difference
from last season's team was moving from three running backs on the 1st
& 2nd teams to two running backs on each team. On defense, we
selected three defensive backs instead of four, but added an Athlete
position to the defensive side.
