Basketball Classic took place last Saturday afternoon at Virginia Wesleyan
College, featuring some of the best players and teams from around the entire
state. Someone asked me afterwards, "were
there any upsets?" My response was, "not
really," and that's because many of the matchups pitted evenly matched teams
against one another, so the outcomes weren't really surprising or
shocking. Competitive and enjoyable to
watch they were though.
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>The Eastern Region teams went 4-1 against the Central,
North and Northwest with the only blemish coming in the T.C. Williams/Oscar
Smith matchup. A couple of records were
set with Bishop Sullivan's Marcus
Burwell recording the event's first ever triple-double, Maury's
style='mso-bidi-font-weight:normal'>Mike Basnight and Churchland's Jaman Hoskie tying
the steals record with six and Lake Taylor's Marquise Chandler setting a new record for free-throws
attempted. There were others too.
