Toran

in 2010 as the Head Football Coach at Norview High
School in Norfolk, VA.
class=SpellE>Norview finished 3-7 last year after opening 0-5.

went 22-38 in six seasons with the Pilots, failing to win a non-district game
in each of the past two years. Their
best season under Toran came in 2008 when the Pilots
finished 6-4 overall, barely missing the postseason.
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Norview hasn't
been to the playoffs since 2001 when they lost to Hampton 14-10 in the regional
semifinals.
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>"The guys were pretty competitive, put in a lot
of hard work and it was unfortunate that things didn't fall in to place
like we wanted them. I enjoyed
coaching the young men all six seasons.
For me, it was more for personal reasons that I don't go into
defining that it's time to step away," Toran
told VirginiaPreps.com on Monday night.
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>Also over the past six years, Toran
has served as the school's Head Wrestling Coach.
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> It's a duty he said he may
continue to hold, though is unsure at this time.
style='mso-spacerun:yes'>
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>"Being the Head Football Coach and Head Wrestling
Coach, a lot of time is taken away from your family.
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> When some personal reasons came up, it
was time to make a change. Right
now I will stay on as wrestling coach, but I have to make a decision if I want
to relieve some of the time that's placed upon me.
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Football commands a lot of your time and
when personal issues come up, sometimes you have to make some adjustments.
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> At this point in time I needed to step
back."

latest stint was his second at Norview.
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Not only did he play for Ken Whitley at
class=SpellE>Norview from 1978-81 as a running back and defensive back,
but he was also the Head J.V. Coach at the school from 1988-91.
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Following that, he went on to be the
Head J.V. Coach at Lake Taylor for a year and served as the offensive
coordinator at Booker T. Washington under Larry Stepney.
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> In college he played football at
Winston-Salem State for a year and wrestled there as well.
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>As for what the future holds, the 46-year-old
class=SpellE>Toran still sees himself being involved in some capacity
with football. He said he's
even open to being an assistant coach again.
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>"I've been coaching 22 years as a football
coach and I still enjoy coaching the game," remarked Toran.
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> "My desires are still to
coach. A lot of friends are still
in the area and I'll re-assess things over the summer.
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> My ego is not as such where I have to be
a Head Coach. I'd be just as satisfied
coaching running backs, the offensive line or being an offensive coordinator."
