It's our first update of the Top Ten Rankings since the preseason as we skipped a week ago due to all the zaniness surrounding Hurricane Dorian, plus it allowed every team in the state to get at least one game in before our re-shuffling.
There's no change at the top of any of the six classifications with Westfield, Highland Springs, Lake Taylor, Lord Botetourt, Graham and Riverheads all remaining atop their respective perches if you will. However, Graham suffered a defeat among that group, falling to West Virginia powerhouse Bluefield, 41-27. However, that was a closer final margin than their 38-14 loss in the opener a year ago before the G-Men rattled off 14 straight wins by double-figures on their way to the Class 2 crown.
Meanwhile, Lord Botetourt and Lake Taylor had to survive early-season scares with the Cavaliers coming from behind to defeat Brookville, while the Titans edged Class 3 contender Phoebus on a field goal at the end. Both have stiff tests this week with Lake Taylor visiting Norfolk rival Maury, currently ranked No. 3 in Class 5, and Botetourt taking on that same Bluefield team that beat Graham, minus some key members of their starting defense out due to injury.
A total of six teams have dropped out of the rankings from the preseason, which includes a pair of Class 2 schools that opened 0-2. Check it all out below...
*** Do note that for this week only under the result tab we will note the team's most recent game and not 'idle' if they had a bye in the past seven days. ***
