Maggie Walker Green Dragons (14-8) defense held the Goochland Bulldogs(21-5) in check all day and held on for a 3-1 2A VHSL State Championship. The Bulldogs started out hot with two hits in each of the first two innings, including an RBI double that put Goochland up 1-0 early in the second inning.

But pitcher Frankie Celentano pitched a complete game for the Green Dragons and relied on his defensive field to keep the Bulldogs in check the remainder of the game. The Bulldogs came into the game with hot bats after scoring 9 runs in one inning in the semi-final game Friday against Virginia High. The balls were hit, but they were hit in the air to the Green Dragons defense.

The Bulldogs allowed only two hits through the first four innings behind strong pitching from Goochland starter Tanner Bradshaw and great field plays by Third Baseman John King and a line drive catch by second baseman Andrew Harcum.

Maggie Walker found their grove in the fifth inning by three consecutive singles by James Wyatt, Matthew Haines and Henry Haas to load the bases and got on the scoreboard with fielder's choice by Nathan Berry. Cole Ragone set the final score with a single to center field scoring Haas and Haines to make it 3-1.

Goochland attempted a rally in the seventh, but fly outs by Noah Doczi and Norman to the center fielder to end the game.
