The 2017 Virginia High School Football season has come and gone. Five teams that captured State Championships last year repeated, which was the maximum given that Blacksburg - the 3A Champ from 2016 - moved up to Class 4, where they were ousted by defending Champ Salem in a regional title game.
To go a step further, four teams in Westfield (Class 6), Highland Springs (Class 5), Salem (Class 4) and Appomattox (Class 2) all won their third State Championship in a row. Riverheads won its fifth state title since 2000, while Hopewell rebounded from a three-game losing streak to end the regular season by winning five playoff games in a row to hoist the program's fifth State Championship as well.
