In case any coaches out their wonder if they have
an impact let met tell you a brief story.  My
father just visited his high school coach: Ed Karpus.
The guy coached him in the 1952-1955 seasons.
Coach Karpus coached at Thomas Dale for many, many years. My father
swears that he’d be nowhere in his life if it wasn’t for this guy.
I know he touched the lives of many young men in the Chester area.
One story I remember is when my dad wanted to quit
because he wasn’t playing enough as a freshman.
yes">  Karpus asked him, “How much are you going to play if you
quit?  If you want to play, then
make me play you.”
Another time someone on the team asked, “How come
you yell at us when we mess up, but you don’t say anything when we do good.”
Coach Karpus’s reply, “Because you’re supposed to do good.”
Now if the son of a player remembers some of your
advice, thank what an effect you’re having on the world.
Coach Karpus is very ill now, and I dedicate this season at www.vhslfootball.com
to him.
I’m not trying to tell coach Vic Williams how to
motivate his team, but I hope the Thomas Dale Knights remember coach Karpus
often this season. It would be nice if they could bring home a trophy or two for
him this year.
