Roanoke Catholic wasn't rated as the top team in the latest VISAA D3 ratings but they sure appear to be the best team on the field after dismantling Blessed Sacrament Huguenot 52-7. The Celtics led 30-7 after the 1st quarter while leaving no doubt as to the final outcome.
Senior Jamal Tyree finished with five touchdowns scoring via three different ways. He hauled in a 41-yard touchdown from Jack Kuehler with 8:51 to go to give the Celtics a 16-0 lead. After Blessed Sacrament Huguenot scored their only touchdown with 4:16 to go in the 1st quarter, Tyree returned the ensuing kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown that made the margin 22-7. Tyree added three more touchdowns before halftime scoring on runs from 3, 23, and 18 yards out to give Roanoke Catholic a 46-7 advantage going into halftime.
Tyree finished with 105 yards on six carries while sophomore Mykah English added five carries for 64 yards.
Blessed Sacrament Huguenot had a couple of highlights on their senior night forced two redzone touchdowns to keep the score from escalating any further. Senior Brian Lee recovered a Celtics fumble at the 2-yard line and Colby Johnson made a nice pick of a pass in the endzone with Roanoke Catholic on the Knights 13-yard line. A 9-play, 65-yard touchdown drive produced the Knights only score. Junior quarterback Noah Dowdy connected with junior Chris Gupton on 5-yard fade pattern for a touchdown to cut the Celtics lead to 16-7.
