Fame. Members of the Class of 2006, the 17th to be inducted, will bring total membership to 177.
Sponsored jointly by the Virginia High School League and the Virginia High School Coaches
Association, the hall is dedicated to preserving the rich heritage of outstanding achievements by
students and adults in sports and activities within Virginia's public high schools.
The Class of 2006 includes two athletes, two coaches and four contributors. Athletes are eligible
for consideration 10 years after completion of their high school careers and are judged primarily for
their achievements in interscholastic sports. Coaches are eligible after 15 years of experience or upon
retirement and are judged on the merits of their achievements at the high school level. Contributors are
professionals who have rendered significant services in some other capacity such as administration,
academic activities, officiating, media, or sports medicine.
The induction is set for the DoubleTree Hotel in Charlottesville on Tuesday, Oct. 17. The honorees
are as follows:
Athletes
Jamael Oronde ("Ronde") Barber -
Cave Spring High School
Ronde Barber was the 55m hurdles
district and region champion in indoor track during all four
years at Cave Spring High School,
the state champion for all but his first year, and the national
champion during his last. He still
holds the school record in five track events, but football is the sport
where Ronde is best remembered. In
this sport, he received All-District, All-Region, and All-State
honors as a defensive back, and he
still holds the school record with eleven interceptions in a single
season. In 1994 while at the
University of Virginia, he was the ACC Rookie of the Year. Currently, he
is a two-time All-Pro defensive back
for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Atiim Kiambu ("Tiki") Barber -
Cave Spring High School
Tiki Barber was the long jump
district and region champion in indoor track during his last three
years at Cave Spring High School.
During his junior year, he was the state champion for the same
event and also ranked third
nationally. As a senior, he was the district, region, and state champion in
both the long jump and triple jump
in outdoor track. He still holds six school records in track; however,
he also received All-District,
All-Region, and All-State honors as a defensive back on the Cave Spring
football team. While at the
University of Virginia, Tiki was the Most Valuable Player in the Peach Bowl.
Currently, he is a tailback for the
New York Giants.

the state since she initiated the
program at Harrisonburg High School in 1975. Under her leadership,
her teams have won five district,
three regional, and two state titles. She has also been instrumental in
instituting technology into the
