Is there a bigger surprise in Tidewater so far than the Lakeland Cavaliers? The Suffolk squad has a record of 3-1 this year, just one season after they finished 3-9 overall with a 2-8 mark during the regular season.

On Monday night, the Cavaliers piled up a season-high 553 total yards of offense on 53 plays against the Great Bridge Wildcats on their way to prevailing 55-26 in a score-fest. Lakeland scored on five of their seven offensive possessions and closed the first half with a defensive interception from sophomore Tyquan Holloman.

Also the team's starting quarterback, Holloman completed 15 of 20 passes for 255 yards and two touchdown passes - one each to Alajuwun Langston and Deondre Little - plus rushed for an additional 46 yards on seven carries.

Leading the strong start for Lakeland, whose only loss came 17-0 to 6A title contender Oscar Smith, is senior running back Damontra Milteer. So far this season, Milteer has rushed for 617 yards and six touchdowns, three of them coming in Monday's win over Great Bridge. Against the Wildcats, he ran the ball 19 times for 204 yards, gaining 178 of those yards before intermission.

Though the Lakeland defense got hit hard through the air for 322 yards passing by Great Bridge's AJ Frommelt, who fired three touchdowns to Andruw Harman (7Rec. 198Yds.), the Cavaliers did come up with three takeaways. They also limited the Wildcats to just 44 yards rushing on 32 carries.

Next up for Lakeland is a home game on September 23rd with Deep Creek (2-2). Following their latest win, we caught up with Cavs Head Coach Kevin Knight to talk about his team in a Video Interview embedded above that can also be seen at the link below...
