twenty-four teams competing for the championship with games tipping off at 10:0
a.m..
This year's field includes a number of '07 Eastern Region
playoff qualifiers including Bethel, Great Bridge, Green Run, Heritage,
Lafayette, Lake Taylor, Maury, Salem, Woodside and the defending D5 and D6
regional champions -- Phoebus and Oscar Smith, respectively.
Out-of-town programs dot the landscape of the tournament as
well with Forest Park (Woodbridge, Va.), Friendly (Fort Washington, Md.), and
Marlboro County (Bennettsville, SC) entered into the event.  Of course, the
majority of the day features local Hampton Roads teams with the following
programs competing:  Booker T. Washington, Deep Creek, Grassfield, Grafton,
Kings Fork, Lakeland, Menchville, Princess Anne, Tabb and York.
The event has quickly become one of the premier 7 x 7 events
in the area because of the level of talent it attracts and this year is no
exception as a number of DI commits will be on hand as well as a number of other
players being courted by top schools.
Be on the lookout for...
Jontel Evans, RB, Bethel - The 5-foot-11, 190 pounder is being
recruited for both basketball and football with some of the big name schools in
the ACC involved including N.C. State, Clemson, North Carolina, Maryland,
Virginia and Virginia Tech.
James Gayle, DE, Bethel - The 6-foot-4, 220 pound lineman may
get some time at linebacker throughout the day as he did last weekend at the
Hampton University 7 x 7.  He holds offers from N.C. State, Purdue,
Syracuse, Central Florida, East Carolina, Marshall and Richmond.  Fun fact,
Logan HeastieClick both his father and uncle played for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Here to view this Link., WR, Great Bridge - One of the state's top-ranked players, Logan has
committed to West Virginia University and will be looking to show off his 4.4
speed in this event.  He'll be one of the more dangerous after-the-catch
players in the event.
Carvin Powell, WR, Great Bridge - On the other side of the
field, the Wildcats will line up the younger brother of former Virginia Tech
Hokie Carlton Powell.  Carvin currently holds offers from East Carolina and
Army and has been contacted by a number of ACC programs.
Tajh Boyd, QB, Phoebus - The 2007 Eastern Region Offensive
Player of the Year and West Virginia commit will be on hand to lead the
Phantoms.  The 6-foo1, 210 pounder is ranked as the number one high school
quarterback in the state this season.
Perry Jones, LB, Oscar Smith - Jones committed to the
University of Virginia where he will likely play safety, so this is a great
chance to check out some of his coverage skills as he will be backpedaling all
day.
Demetrius Craighead, WR, Heritage - The 6-foot-1, 170 pounder
has been a bit underpublicized during the offseason, so this will be a chance
for him to compete against some more heralded kids and grab some attention for
himself and his team.  He is said to be a solid DI-AA prospect but could
jump to the DI level.
Michael Mason, Kings Fork, WR - The host school features a
burner in the 5-foot-11, 160 pound Mason who has shown a knack for making plays
Brandon ScottClick on both sides of the ball. Here to view this Link., Forest Park, WR - Ranked as one of the top 20 players in the state, the
6-foot-4, 215 pound speedster will get a chance to compete out of his home
region.  He is drawing interest from schools across the ACC and Big East.
Tim Smith, Oscar Smith, WR - The three-star prospect was
one of the best players on display last weekend at Hampton University and will
look to maintain that momentum this weekend.  His offer sheet includes
Louisville, South Carolina, West Virginia and Virginia, among others.
Patrick Young, Green Run, WR - The 5-foot-11, 180 pounder
lists West Virginia, Virginia Tech and North Carolina among his favorite schools
and he's looking to camp at those schools this summer after checking one out at
Penn State earlier this summer.
Will Hill, Lafayette, DE - The rising senior sometimes works
at linebacker so there's a chance that he will be working with his team.
He'll likely be deciding on school from an offer sheet which includes UConn,
Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
Mike Privott, Lake Taylor, LB - The Titans middle linebacker
helped lead his team to the title in this event two years ago and will be
looking for another title here before playing his senior season and heading off
to Louisville where he committed to play.
Shalieq Worrell, Green Run, LB - At 6-foot-1, 220 pounds,
Worrell brings a DI body to this event and will likely be a kid who sees his
recruiting blow up during his senior season as teammate Joe Jones' did last
LoVante' BattleClick season before he committed to Virginia Tech. Here to view this Link., Phoebus, LB - The rising senior has already committed to the University
of Virginia where he will likely team with Oscar Smith's Perry Jones to form a
hard-hitting safeties unit.
Curtis Campbell, Grassfield, S - His 4.4 speed is attracting
college coaches from across the region as the 6-foot-2, 205 pounder claims an
offer from North Carolina and is drawing interest from several other ACC
programs.
Laroy Reynolds, Maury, DB - The three-star prospect has offers
from N.C. State, Syracuse and Virginia in hand and should garner many more over
the course of his senior season.
Kinsman Thomas, Marlboro County, WR - The 6-foot-2, 195 pound
receiver claims South Carolina as his top school and he also sits on offers from
N.C. State and Vanderbilt.
Tariq Edwards, Marlboro County, LB - The three-star prospect
is being chased by virtually every school in the mid-Atlantic region including
offers from Maryland, N.C. State, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Virginia and
Virginia Tech.
Darrell Givens, Friendly, CB - The 6-foot-1, 170 pound
defensive back pulled as many offers as any player at this event before making
his commitment to Penn State in early May.
And that's just a small sample of the talent who will be
flying around the fields behind Kings Fork High School this Saturday.
