The Brookville Bees currently check in at #9 in the latest 3A Top Ten, and after defeating Western Albemarle 41-7 to move to 2-0 overall on the season, it may not be long before we see the program out of Lynchburg soon move up the rankings.

That win, far more convincing than the 34-20 triumph over the Warriors from a year ago, certainly gets the attention of many because Western Albemarle was also in the Top Ten at #10 and had steamrolled Broadway 40-0 in its opener.

Western Albemarle is no slouch either, having won double-digit games each of the past four years. Their only other loss from 2015 came in the second round of the playoffs to Staunton River in a score-fest for the ages, 85-79. It's also the first time that the offensive machine that is Western Albemarle was held to single-digits in points since a 42-7 loss to Powhatan from 2011.

So without question, the defensive job by the Bees is noteworthy. What also must be pointed out is the emergence of junior Tanner Bernard at the quarterback position.

Bernard, in just his second career start and first at home, completed 11 of 14 pass attempts for 313 yards and five touchdowns... in one half!

Bernard ended up going 14-of-20 for 328 yards with 5TD's. His numbers would've likely been a lot greater had Head Coach Jon Meeks needed him to throw more. That wasn't necessarily obviously with a 35-7 lead at the half.

Make no mistake, Bernard is a name to know and a player that could lead Brookville to heights they haven't experienced since winning back-to-back state titles with undefeated seasons in 2011 and 2012.

Next up for Bernard and the Bees is a road date with 2A Gretna on September 9th. They beat the Hawks 42-0 last year.
