TeamCityRecord
1EssexTappahannock0-0
The Trojans have put together a 39-6 record since the beginning of the 2012 season advancing to three straight state championship games falling to Goochland once and Altavista twice. There is still enough talent on the roster to make yet another run this season. Two-way senior Malik Martin will step to the forefront on both sides of the ball while earning support on the offensive side from wideout Rasaun Monroe and on the defensive side from defensive end Dameon Brooks.
2HonakerHonaker0-0
The Tigers have emerged as a state power over the course of the past four seasons totaling a 46-8 mark since the beginning of the 2011 season including two runs to the state semifinals and a state championship game appearance in 2012. On the offensive side of the ball, the ground game will be strong with both Avin Parrott and Bryson Bostic capable of taking over games from their running back spots. Parrot is also one of two starting defensive backs returning, along with Brent Coleman, and they will support a strong defensive line headlined by Joshua Miller and returning starter Dyal Coxton
3AltavistaAltavista0-0
The graduation losses were heavy enough to knock the two-time defending state champions and winners of 29 of their last 30 games out of the top spot, but there is only so far down that you want to move a program who has established themselves as the class of the classification. They'll need some step up performances at the skill position spots to defend their titles but a nice foundation along the line of scrimmage is set on both sides of the ball with offensive lineman Steven Farmer and defensive lineman Dante Poindexter.
4RiverheadsStaunton0-0
Last season, for the sixth consecutive year, the Gladiators totaled double-digit victories running their record since the beginning of the 2009 season to 68-9 including a state title winning campaign in 2010. Likely still smarting a bit from their one-point loss to King William that knocked them out of the postseason in the second round last year, look for a motivated group led by running back Ben Agnor to make a serious run to the state title game.
5RadfordRadford0-0
Following back-to-back 6-6 campaigns, the Bobcats are looking for bigger and better things this year after pushing Honaker to the limit last season in the playoffs. A strong core of players return on the offensive side of the ball including quarterback Marcus Finley, wideouts DJ Baylor, Nathan Dobos and Dontae Billings along with four starting offensive linemen. Similarily, the defense brings back seven starters headed up by linemen Nick Ridpath and Wes Parcell along with linebackers Heth Grant and Jacob Burke.
6Central SeniorVictoria0-0
Last season's 8-4 record marked the first time that the Chargers failed to win ten or more games in four seasons, but they look to be getting back on the upswing this fall. The offense, which averaged over 30 points per game last season, should still put up a lot of points behind running back Malik Foster, wide receiver Brandon Scott and tight end Raymond Alexander while the defense will rely upon returners like safety Josh Paynter to improve upon their productivity.
7GalaxGalax0-0
Five straight trips to the postseason including a run to the title game in 2011 and one to the state semifinals last year where they lost by a point to Haysi has set up the Maroon Tide as contenders on an annual basis. Senior Caleb Spurlin will anchor the team on both sides of the ball from his center and linebacker spots getting help on offense from tackle Daniel Edwards and wide receiver DeAngelo Ravenell while playing behind standout defensive lineman Zamir Echeagray on the defensive side.
8George WytheWytheville0-0
The Maroons have made eight consecutive trips to the postseason capturing the 2012 state title en route and they advanced to the state quarterfinals last year. They opened their 2014 on a low note losing their first three but responded by collecting nine straight wins before being ousted by Honaker. There is plenty of talent returning to the gridiron for them this fall with two-way lineman Dylan Anderson, all-purpose athlete Monterick Phillips, defensive end David Dickerson and linebacker Tyler Hardin leading the charge.
9AuburnRiner0-0
From 2010-2012, the Eagles failed to win a single game but things have turned around nicely for them since as they've notched back-to-back 7-5 campaigns and appear ready to repeat or surpass that mark this year. The defense should be the headline unit as they will see returning starters on every level including defensive lineman Taylor Naff, linebackers Ethan Crockett and Jordan Fleenor, and defensive backs Justin Light and Austin Crockett. On the offensive side, lineman Michael Boyd will anchor a unit opening holes for running back Jeremy Nelson.
10Colonial BeachColonial Beach0-0
Though the Drifters had advanced to the postseason four consecutive times before the 2014 campaign, they hadn't put together a double-digit win season since 2008. However, the won six of their first seven last year before collecting wins in five of their next six to advance to the state quarterfinals where they were felled by state runners-up Essex. The 2015 squad will be headed up by two-way standout Lamar Lucas who plays running back and linebacker. He's supported on the offensive side by returning starter Mike Mothershead at wideout and on the defensive side by secondary standout Alonzo Turner.
