TeamCityStateRecord
1Ocean LakesVirginia BeachVA0-0
The defending state champions will enter the season riding a 15-game winning streak and, despite dealing with some offseason controversy including the suspension of their head coach for the first three games of the season, the Dolphins have more than enough talent on the field to become the first back-to-back champion at the state's highest level since Hylton pulled it off in 1998 and 1999. Division I athletes like Levonta Taylor, Eric Crosby, Khalan Laborn and Justin Smith give the coaching staff a lot of options on both sides of the ball.
2WestfieldChantillyVA0-0
Following back-to-back losses to Centreville in the state semifinals, the 2015 Bulldogs might be the team that gets the program back into the state championship game, a spot that they haven't been in since 2007. They'll feature a lot of experienced playmakers on both sides of the ball and a coaching staff familiar with preparing teams for deep postseason runs. Tyler Scanlon and Dominique Pearson will head up the offensive attack while a defense returning seven starters, including middle linebacker Jack Clancy, will be a tough test for anyone.
3Lake BraddockBurkeVA0-0
The Bruins advanced to the elite eight in both 2013 and 2014 and feature a roster that could carry them even higher this season. A dazzling offense triggered by quarterback Kyle Edwards will likely be among the most productive in the state this season while standouts Lamont Atkins and Peyton Scott key a defense that should be as strong as any the team has put on the field in recent memory.
4Oscar SmithChesapeakeVA0-0
In each of the last eleven seasons, the Tigers have advanced at least as far as the elite eight clearly establishing themselves as the state's premier program collecting two state titles along the way. The 2015 squad may be the youngest team that they have fielded in that time, however, as the roster will be very sophomore and junior heavy. Quarterback Shon Mitchell returns for his third year at the helm while the defense will be keyed by rising star Keshon Artis at middle linebacker and Deangelo White at cornerback.
5South CountyLortonVA0-0
In three of the last four seasons, the Stallions have advanced to at least the sweet sixteen including a run to the state title game in 2011 where they fell to Phoebus. Offensively, they've been perhaps the most explosive team in the state averaging close to 48 points per contest over the past two seasons and, even when they have lost, it has usually been in high-scoring shootouts (55-35 to Centreville in 2013 and 41-36 to Battlefield in 2014). The return of linebacker Kevin Allen, defensive lineman Saif Khan along with defensive backs Khaloney Barrie, Kofi Bell and Kyle Foley should shore up the defense while quarterback Deandre Clayton, running back Demarcus Ramsey and tight end Dillon Spalding headline the offense.
6C. D. HyltonWoodbridgeVA0-0
In four of the last five seasons, the Bulldogs have notched double-digit victories though they fell a game short of it last season finishing 9-2 with losses to Stonewall Jackson (18-16) and James River (13-8). They'll be looking to make up for a first round postseason loss and feature a number of returning proven playmakers. Donovan Williams at quarterback, Ricky Slade at tailback and Daniel Horne along the line of scrimmage will lead a strong offense while returning standout DJ Wright at cornerback will head up a young defense.
7Colonial ForgeStaffordVA0-0
The Eagles have advanced to at least the elite eight for three straight campaigns establishing their program as one of the power players in Class 6A totaling a 29-13 mark since the beginning of the 2012 season. The 2015 squad doesn't have a heavyweight name like they have had in the past but there is still a lot of talent on the roster including two-way starter Rohan Martin and offensive lineman Grant Garza. They may have some growing pains early in the season but, by postseason time, few programs will be as prepared as Coach Bill Brown's squad.
8CentrevilleCliftonVA0-0
The Wildcats will enter the season having won 27 of their last 30 contests including the 2013 state championship game, their second of three appearances in the championship contest since 2011. The graduation losses were heavy (four DI prospects), but a winning culture is in place and there are plenty of players ready to step up including running back Kyle Richbourg and center Riley Newell on offense. The defense sees the return of five starters including Division I defensive linemen Christian Brooks (2016) and Caleb Brooks (2017). They will almost certainly play with a chip on their shoulders after hearing all offseason that the graduation losses will cripple the program.
9PatriotNokesvilleVA0-0
After qualifying for the postseason in 2013, in only their second year of existence, the Pioneers won their first playoff game last season before falling to Centreville in the second round. Though they suffer some big graduation losses, Coach Brud Bicknell and staff have quickly developed a winning culture that should help young players find their stride early and the Pioneers will be young this season. Junior quarterback Patrick Bentley seems to have the right stuff to keep the offense on the right track while returning starters Christian Pridgeon and Nice Cerreta at defensive back should anchor a solid group.
10ManchesterMidlothianVA0-0
Following a perfect regular season that included a win over L.C. Bird, the Lancers captured their first postseason win of the century last season before falling to Hermitage in the second round in a battle of undefeateds. They take a step up to Class 6A this season which might make for an easier road once the playoffs begin. Five starters return on the defensive side of the ball including Division I safety Elijah Conner while the offense will be centered on senior tailback Justin Pendergrass and an experienced offensive line until hyped freshman quarterback Brendan Clark can get acclimated to the varsity game.
