Greenbrier Christian Academy senior Kayla Harris, one of the States best softball players, realized a dream come true when she signed on the dotted line and committed to the University of Pittsburgh to play softball for Coach Holly Aprile. The Panthers finished 19-29 last season and they will compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference starting with the 2014 season. Harris was impressed with her visit to the Pennsylvania school.

"When I visited Pittsburgh, I fell in love with the school,", Harris said. "I felt the coaches were great plus they are nationally ranked for the degree I'm trying to pursue (Sports Medicine)."

Harris helped Greenbrier to their 5th straight State championship after going 27-0 while starting and winning ever game for the Gators. She struckout 285 batters while composing a 0.59 earned run average. At the plate, Kayla batted .489 with 11 homeruns and 58 RBI. She threw three perfect games, three no-hitters and six one-hitters while being named the Division II VISAA Player of the Year.

For her senior year, Kayla wants to continue to improve as a pitcher and hitter and help lead her team to another state championship. "I'll work on conditioning and stamina to get ready for college due to their longer softball schedule," Harris said. "I also want to continue working on my pitching to be better in the circle."

Congrats to this young woman.  Love to see stories of kids achieving great things through their talents and hard work.  Wish her nothing but the best in pursuing her dreams and goals.

Congrats to her, but I hate to see good players leave the state. (unless they are not recruited by state schools)
