Yancey and Grayson Select Spiders!

University of Richmond struck 'recruiting gold'
this week with two quality Richmond area commitments in Griff Yancey from

Hermitage High School and Kevin Grayson from L. C. Bird High School.
Yancey
was first team all state pick by the Virginia High School Coaches Association,
and was also a two-time All-Metro selection by the Richmond
Times-Dispatch.  This season, despite some nagging injuries Yancey caught 26
passes for 546 yards and 6 touchdowns. He was also a standout for the Panthers
on kickoff and punt returns.
Yancey a 6-foot, 190 pounder, was recruited by
a number of other Division 1AA schools including JMU and VMI.
Kevin Grayson helped lead the Skyhawks to their
second consecutive Division 6 state semifinal appearance - and was rewarded for
his efforts on the season by the State Coaches Association by being named to
their  second team all state squad.  At 6-foot-3, and almost 200 pound
Grayson provides an a great combination of speed and size.  Grayson played
both wide receiver and defensive back for Coach David Bedwell at Bird.
For the season on offense Grayson contributed
25 pass receptions and scored four touchdowns - in a offense that is primarily
run oriented.
If these two commitments are indicative of the
2006 Spider recruiting class - then UR fans are in for continuation of the
success that the 2005 football team experienced.
