WL standout Weldon signs with Norfolk State

On Wednesday Washington & Lee (Montross)
standout athlete Jermaine Weldon signed a football scholarship with Norfolk
State.
As a senior, Weldon, was named to the VHSCA All-State Team as a wide receiver after leading his Washington and Lee Eagles back into the Group A, Region A Playoffs for the 7th straight year.  Weldon had 42 catches for 674 yards and eight TDs in his senior campaign for a career total of 76 catches, 1274 yards, and 14 touchdowns.
In his three years as a two-way varsity standout,
the 6-foot-3, 190 pound Weldon twice led his team to Region A Championships and into the Virginia High School League State Playoffs.The versatile Weldon was named the Eagles' offensive "Most Valuable Player" in '06  and was a finalist for Northern Neck District defensive MVP. 
As a basketball player, Weldon was a four year letterman. He was an All Northern Neck District pick as a
junior and is a district Player-of-the-Year candidate as a senior. 
Weldon was recruited as a wide receiver and with the graduation of six
Spartan senior wide-outs, has the potential to be in the mix immediately at Norfolk State. Highlighting next year's schedule is an early game at nationally ranked Big East Conference member
Rutgers.
"We like him a lot, and we think he can make an early impact for us", said Norfolk State Assistant coach Mark
DeBastiani. 
Jermaine, 18, is the son of Jacqueline and Rodney Weldon of Hague.
