LEXINGTON, Va. – Head Coach Cal McCombs announced the
signings of 11 recruits to national letters of intent.
More signees will be added to the list during the signing period.
Brandon Bunn, Back, 5-10, 175, Virginia Beach, Va. (Kellam H.S./ Fork Union
Military)
Played wide receiver and cornerback and lettered three years at Kellam High
School…first team All-District as a defensive back and second team All-Region
at defensive back…earned MVP honors at Kellam…led the district in kick
return yardage…also lettered two years at guard in basketball at Lellam and
was a Beach District honorable mention pick…also lettered three years in track
- running the 200, 400, and 4 x100 relay…father Gene Bunn played football at
Virginia Tech and mother Deborah played at field hockey at Old Dominion…plans
to major in Economics and Business or Psychology.
Frank Ellis, Line, 6-7, 255, Reva, Va. (Madison County H.S.)
Lettered four years at Madison County and played defensive end, offensive
tackle, and defensive tackle…named All-State at defensive end…Madison County
bench/squat and dead lift champion…also lettered two years in basketball at
Madison County…honor roll student.
Jason Lovett, Back, 6-0, 205, Fredericksburg, Va. (Massaponax H.S.)
Compiled over 3,500 career rushing yards at Massaponax…rushed for 1160 yards
on 145 carries and caught 15 passes for 310 yards in 2004…named All-Region and
All-District…lettered and started four years…named MVP of a regional playoff
game…earned school leadership award…plans to major in Economics and
Business.
Wes Lokey, Line, 6-4, 285, Harrisonburg, Va. (Harrisonburg H.S.)
First team All-State lineman at 2004 AA state runner-up Harrisonburg…also
named All-Region and All-District…competed in track and threw the discus and
shot put and placed 16th in the state…holds the school record for the shot-put
(47'-10 ½ '')…plans to major in biology.
Patrick
McKinney, Line, 6-3, 220, Big Stone Gap, Va. (Powell Valley H.S.)
Twice named First team All-District and All-Region and honorable mention at
fullback during his junior and senior years…also named second team
All-District at linebacker in 2003…rushed for over 1,000 yards as a
junior…was named Lonesome Pine District Defensive Lineman of the Year and
honorable mention all-state at defensive end in 2004…two-way starter for state
A runner up Powell Valley that posted a 12-2 record in 2004…lettered three
years in basketball and four years in track where he competed in seven events
including the shot put. long jump, triple jump, and hurdles…academic All-State
athlete for four years.

Popper, Line, 6-1, 275, N. Wildwood, N.J. (Wildwood H.S./ Fork Union
Military)
First team All-Tri-County selection…lettered two years at defensive
lineman…also lettered two years in track and two years in
basketball…qualified for state championships and tournament of champions for
the shot put…dean's list student at Fork Union…father Michael Popper
played basketball at Lock Haven State…plans to major in engineering.
Joey
Robinson, Back, 6-1, 190, Gaithersburg, Md. (Gaithersburg H.S.)
Lettered twice in football and track…completed 89 of 182 passes for 1,327
yards and 13 touchdowns…won the Montgomery County high hurdles and long jump
championship.
Joe
Taylor, Back, 5-11, 180, Richmond, Va. (Benedictine H.S.)
Second team All-VISFA at running back…lettered four years in
football…co-captained the team his senior season…named most outstanding
offensive player award and earned elite cadet awards status his senior
year…won super cadet award his junior year…also lettered in indoor and
outdoor track.
Keith
Taylor, Back, 6-1, 190, Mechanicsville, Va. (Lee-Davis H.S.)
An All-District second team selection at Lee-Davis for both 2003 and
2004…served as varsity football team captain and lettered four
years…compiled 33 career receptions for 458 yards and two touchdowns and also
had 208 career tackles with 12 interceptions, 12 tackles-for-loss, and 17 pass
break-ups…won first place in the Virginia Power Lifting Association 2004 AAU
RAW National Championship (16-18 year olds)…awarded academic All-District
accolades in both 2003 and 2004…plans to major in engineering.
Trahern
Vinnie, Back, 5-11, 210, Onley, Va. (Nandua)
Rushed for over 4,998 yards and 50 career touchdowns at Nandua High
School…rushed for 1,477 yards and 16 touchdowns as a senior in 2004 and
averaged almost 7.0 yards per carry…named All-State at tailback and invited to
play in the East-West All-Star game…named All-region and was district
offensive player of the year…also lettered four years in wrestling and
competed in the 189/215 and heavyweight classes where he went 101-11 and won a
state championship…also a sprinter on the track team and won a district
championship…honor roll student and named Who's Who.
Victor
Wells, Back, 6-0, 212, Richmond, Va. (Highland Springs)
Was 27-6 as a starter at quarterback at Highland Springs and led the team to the
playoffs three consecutive years…rushed for 251 yards and six TD's as a
senior and threw for 420 yards and five touchdowns in 2004…rushed for 922
yards and 16 TD's during his career and threw for 1,598 yards and 20
touchdowns…plans to major in engineering.
