normal'>Basketball Weekly where we turn our sole attention to Day 2 of the
VirginiaPreps.com Basketball Classic at Green Run High School on Saturday,
January 28, 2012. We had Part 1 back on
January 7th at Virginia Wesleyan College, and it turned out to be quite a
success. We're hoping for an even bigger
and better turnout this time, and now we give you the fans an in-depth Preview
of the matchups.
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>Since I'm technically the Event Organizer (
style='mso-bidi-font-style:normal'>at least that's what they said my title was),
style='mso-bidi-font-style:normal'> I won't make picks on the games, but we
bring out the Magic 8 Ball again to attempt to forecast the outcomes.
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> So far, the Magic 8 Ball is 23-6 in four
years of doing this, but three weeks ago it got teams like Churchland,
Western Branch and Salem so motivated for picking against them that they
won. Will it be fuel for more
teams? Let's find out and see! ,

(14.8PPG).  Evans likes to dial it up from deep and is an underrated
defender, while Owens can be slippery down the lane and was phenomenal in Great
Bridge's win over John Marshall in a showcase earlier this month.
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Great Bridge has a two-game lead on the rest
of the pack as they chase their first Southeastern District regular season
title since 2000.  They'll take on a streaking Langley team, winners of
six in a row, including a big overtime victory over McLean last week that put
them in sole possession of first place in the Northern Region's Liberty
District.

counter with in 6-foot-4 senior Daniel
Dixon (17.6PPG, 33 3's), who is set to play his College Basketball at St.
Michael's in Vermont, and 6-foot-2 senior Joey
Robinson (13.3PPG). In the Saxons'
dribble drive offense, Dixon routinely has been the go-to guy and had to
shoulder more of the load with guard Austin
Vasiliadis (headed to play his College Basketball
at Johns Hopkins) on the shelf with a season-ending injury he sustained during
football season. However, Robinson
really stepped his game up in a win over South Lakes with a career-high 31
points and seven three-pointers, and Coach Travis
Hess hopes he can continue his torrid play against a team in Great Bridge
that is patient and plays solid defense with their 1-3-1 zone.

bench play with Davis and Mark Madison,

done with the Stallions this season.  After going 13-30 over the past two
seasons, Green Run could be 14-5 when this game tips off on their home floor Saturday
if they take care of business as expected against Princess Anne.  Of
course, having one of the state's best two-sport athletes in UVA football
commit Mark Hall doesn't hurt.
Hall has 16 double-doubles in 18 games.  Throw in a talented newcomer in
Maury transfer Keon
style='mso-bidi-font-weight:normal'> Buchanan, who's only a sophomore, and
a defensive pest in Lequan
style='mso-bidi-font-weight:normal'> Thomas (6.1SPG), and Green Run figures

difference maker for Edison if they are to win as they need him to be able to penetrate
and get to the basket off the dribble so that Green Run's defense can't
exclusively concentrate on Mackall and Murphy.
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> These are two really sound rebounding teams,
so if that's a wash as it figures to be, guard play and outside shooting might
tell the story.
