Video - Lake Taylor Wins Benefit Battle, Preps for Dec. 9 Showdown

In a matchup of two Top 10 ranked teams in the state, 4A contender Lake Taylor outlasted 5A host Green Run 56-51 in a benefit game in Virginia Beach.

Leading the way for Lake Taylor with 20 points was Dereon Seabron, who scored 14 in the second half. Seabron made 8-of-11 from the foul line to go six rebounds and four blocks.

Jalen Jordan also scored in double-figures with 11 points while also recording three steals. The Titans were able to salt the game away by converting 14-of-18 at the free-throw line.

For Green Run in defeat, the Stallions got 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting from Shawn Sanders, who came up a rebound shy of a double-double. Emonni Wood finished with 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field, seven rebounds and three blocks.

The Stallions shook off a slow start - 1-of-11 from the field and 1-for-6 at the foul line - to pull within one at half-time. In fact, Green Run went ahead 29-29 early in the third quarter. That's when Lake Taylor went on a 12-0 spurt to seize control.

Lake Taylor, which turned it over 17 times, shot 4-of-21 from three-point distance. Green Run went 0-for-7 from three-point range.

Both teams open the regular season on November 29th; Lake Taylor hosting Eastern District rival Norview, while Green Run plays host to Beach District rival Bayside.

It'll be a rugged schedule out of the gate for Lake Taylor, which will try to get back to the 4A State Championship game. The Titans also take on national powerhouse Oak Hill - featuring a couple of hometown Norfolk products in Rivals 4-Star prospects Matt Coleman (formerly of Maury) and David McCormack (formerly of Norfolk Academy - as part of a triple-header in the Jarcam Basketball Classic on December 9th at the Scope Arena.
