Video Interview - Heritage's Jeremiah Boyd after win over Hampton

Jeremiah Boyd completed his first nine passes on Friday night against the Hampton Crabbers, pegged the preseason favorite in the Peninsula District. His tenth one fell incomplete, but on the very next play, Boyd answered the call when his own number was called with one of his three touchdown runs on the evening in a 27-14 victory deemed by many as an 'upset.'

Hampton was ranked #7 this past week in the latest 5A Top Ten after opening up the season with a 26-0 shutout of Denbigh.

But to Boyd and the Hurricanes (who are ranked #6 in the latest 4A Top Ten), such a win was not exactly an upset. Just two weeks ago, he directed Heritage to a 35-21 road win at Lake Taylor, a perennial power that has played in the State Championship game three times over the past four years. This win came one season after losing to the Titans 54-0.

Not to mention, this was the third time in Boyd's four years with the Newport News program that they have beaten the storied Crabbers, who have won more state titles than anyone else in VHSL history.

Committed to play his College Football at the Naval Academy, Boyd was a big reason why they came out on top and moved to 3-0. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound senior quarterback/linebacker completed 10 of 11 passes for 159 yards without a single turnover.

Boyd added 22 yards rushing, plus made four tackles on defense to go with two pass deflections, one of which came on fourth down to end a Hampton drive.

Following the win, we caught up with Boyd to discuss his performance and the team's play for a Video Interview embedded at the top and at the link below...
