Video - Grassfield's Marty Asprey after 36-20 win over Lakeland

The Grassfield Grizzlies moved to 7-1 overall with a 36-20 home win over the Lakeland Cavaliers in a Southeastern District matchup on Friday night.

Grassfield piled up 391 total yards of offense with running back Darius Hagans leading the way. Hagans ran for 206 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries. It marked his third straight 200-plus yard rushing performance. Defensively, the Grizzlies came up with five takeaways, three on interceptions and two via fumble recoveries.

Two of those interceptions on defense for the Grizzlies were made by senior Austin Wood, an Old Dominion commit. Wood had a 75-yard pick-six early in the third quarter to increase his team's lead to 21-6.

Lakeland struggled to sustain much through the air, finishing with just 36 yards passing on 6 of 13. The Cavs were led by Tyquan Holloman's 99 yards rushing. Damontra Milteer, the leading rusher in the Southeastern District coming into the game, was held to 90 yards on 23 attempts.

Holloman and Ricardo Ray had a pair of rushing touchdowns for the Cavaliers. Nashun Overton also found the end zone on an 82-yard kickoff return.

Teryl Scott Jr. had a fumble recovery on defense and a touchdown run on offense for the Grizzlies. Quarterback Justice Bigbie completed six passes for 137 yards, highlighted by a 79-yard touchdown pass to Eric Powell.

Next up for Grassfield is a trip to Nansemond River (5-3) before hosting Oscar Smith in the regular season finale.

Coach Martin Asprey, who is now 71-38 in his ten seasons at the helm, discusses the latest win for his Grizzlies in the Video Interview embedded above and at the link below.
