VIDEO - Bethel's William Beverley after 28-14 win over Denbigh

Second-year Bethel Head Football Coach William Beverley has the Bruins in position to earn their third straight playoff berth after beating the Denbigh Patriots by a count of 28-14 on Thursday night at Darling Stadium. With the win, Bethel pushed its record to 5-4 overall before traveling to Gloucester for the regular season finale.

Beverley, the former Principal at Phoebus High, saw the Bruins out-gain Denbigh 417-70 on the evening. They also benefited from three takeaways. One of those was the seventh interception of the season by senior defensive back Dwayne Hudson, who has returned two picks for touchdowns.

Pacing the offensive attack was senior quarterback Navarro Price, who completed seven passes to four different receivers for 156 yards. Price had a touchdown run.

Junior running back Kisean Storm made quite an impact out of the backfield with 182 total yards from scrimmage on 17 touches. Storm was carted off late in the contest on a stretcher after suffering an injury and his status is unknown at this point.

Janaz Jordan added 71 yards rushing on 13 carries and scored two touchdowns on the ground. Jordan is one of the most sought after prospects on the team, picking up an offer from Virginia Tech this past summer as the Hokies eye him at defensive tackle. Another highly regarded talent is versatile athlete Jeremiah Owusu, a receiver and outside linebacker for the Bruins.

Owusu made five tackles, three stops for loss, a sack and batted down two passes, plus hauled in two passes for 47 yards. Others that contributed significantly on defense were Trason Washington and Jaevynn Holmes-Reid. Those two combined for five tackles for loss.

In the loss for Denbigh, which dropped to 3-6 overall, sophomore quarterback Jameer Lukerson threw for 115 yards and two touchdowns, including a 62-yard scoring strike to Teaunce Collins in the second half.

We caught up with Coach Beverley after the contest to get his thoughts on the team and what's upcoming for a Bruins squad that may be a tough out in the playoffs, considering they beat both Indian River and Heritage earlier this season, plus took Hampton to overtime.
