Stone Stymies Benedictine

The much anticipated marquee matchup between two the states top private schools turned out to be a dud as University of Virginia commit Lindell Stone tossed five touchdown passes to help Woodberry Forest defeated Benedictine 43-7. Stone passed for 382 yards before leaving in the 3rd quarter during a running clock.

Both teams scored on their 1st possession. Woodberry Forest took the opening kickoff and drove 80 yards in nine plays with Stone connecting with diminutive running back Jameel Wilson for a 42-yard touchdown pass. Benedictine answered with an 8-play, 40-yard drive with Ellis Brooks tying the game with a 6-yard plow thru the defense with 3:31 to go.

Woodberry Forest quickly broke the tie with a 46-yard completion from Stone to future Virginia teammate Terrell Jana with 4:02 remaining in the 1st quarter. The extra point was missed but Colt Alexander made amends by converting a 32-yard field goal with 8:23 to go before half to give the Tigers a 16-7 lead.

Stone added two more touchdown passes before the break with both completions going to Khalid Thomas for 18 and 49 yards. Woodberry forest led 29-7 at halftime.

In the second half, two Benedictine turnovers led to both Woodberry Forest scores. After an interception from Connecticut commit Bebe Olaniyan, Wilson completed an 84-yard drive with a 32-yard touchdown run for a 36-7 lead. A fumble recovery by Will Medick set up the final score when Stone again found Jana who turned a short completion into a 58 yard touchdown strike.
